I love floral stamp sets and this one is no exception. However, this time around it was the sentiments and the big cursive “sending” that drew me to the Sending Smiles bundle. I absolutely love a great sentiment word with a shadow die that goes with it.
Although I love all of the examples I’ve seen with this set, the brightly colored flowers, I knew I wanted to do something different. I started with scrap piece of cardstock that was large enough to cover most of my 5 x 3 7/8 piece of Basic White. From that scrap piece, I used a label die from the Painted Labels set to create an opening in the middle. I also kept that die cut piece. More on that later.
To create my sunset-inspired backdrop, I used my blending brushes. Going from darkest to lightest, I started with one of the new In Colors, Sweet Sorbet, followed by Calypso Coral, Mango Melody and Daffodil Delight.
To stamp the flowers, I placed my blended background piece in my Stamparatus and lined up the floral image. No masking was involved in this step because I wanted my image to partially go into the white area. I used Tuxedo Black Memento ink and stamped the image until it was nice and saturated. As you can see from the stamp set images, I used three of the stamps to create my florals.
From there, I used a piece of the new In Color Glimmer paper, which has a beautiful ombre color effect, to cut out the word ‘Sending’. I did apply an adhesive sheet to back of the paper first before sending it through my Stampin’ Cut and Emboss machine. I then cut my shadow out of Basic Black cardstock and adhered them together.
I used my Stamparatus again to stamp the smaller sentiment in Versamark on Basic Black and heat embossed it with white embossing powder and then trimmed it to the size I needed.
To assemble the card, I used a Thick Basic White card base, when folded measures 5 1/2 x 4 1/2. My next layer was Calypso Coral at 5 3/8 x 4 1/8, Basic Black at 5 1/4 x 4 and my stamped piece measuring 5 x 3 7/8. The sentiment strip and the word Sending were adhered using Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals. I opted not to use any other embellishments since the glimmer paper added a nice bit of sparkle already.

Remember that die cut piece I kept? That’s what I used to create a mask for my second card. Using a piece of removable adhesive tape, I placed it in the middle of a 5 1/4 x 4 piece of Basic White cardstock and created the same sunset blended back ground.
I removed the die cut piece and discarded it, placed my blended cardstock panel in my Stamparatus and this time masked off the bottom of the white area with a post-it note to prevent any ink from going into my blended area. I stamped my floral images and added some Wind of Stella for a bit of sparkle.
I added a 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 piece of Basic Black to a Thick Basic White card base and then adhered my blended panel on that. This time Sending was cut from Basic White and mounted on a Basic Black shadow. I also used heat embossing on the smaller sentiment as well. Both were mounted with mini stampin’ dimensionals. To finish the card, I added couple of brass butterflies.
I’m not sure which card I like best! Which do you prefer? I enjoyed making these and can’t wait for them to find a new home.
