I simply love these little birds!! This set, Free as a Bird, first debuted in the 2019 – 2020 Stampin’ Up annual catalog. I have to admit that as much as I loved this set, it intimated me a bit when it came to coloring the birds. However, after seeing so many other examples of how this set was being used, I couldn’t resist giving it a try and I’m delighted I did!
To begin, I stamped all of the birds and flowers in Momento tuxedo black ink onto Whisper White cardstock. The first card on the left and the last one on the right, after coloring them with Stampin’ Blends, I then “fussy cut” the images. As you can see in these three cards, I tend to use mainly brown tones when coloring these birds, which are Light and Dark Crumb Cake with touches of light Soft Suede, but you can use any colors your heart desires! The branch itself was colored in a darker tone, Soft Suede, with the leaves all done in Light and Dark Old Olive. Oh, and the beaks were all colored with Light So Saffron.
All three cards are a standard A2 size (4.25 x 5.5″). Going from left to right the birds were colored with a mix of Light and Dark Petal Pink and Light Calypso Coral, which matches the cardstock I used as a frame and as the base for the sentiment. I stamped the background in Crumb Cake on Whisper White with our Birch Cling background stamp. For the middle card, Light and Dark Pool Party were used to match the cardstock for the sentiment and to coordinate with the patterned designer series paper (no longer available). The base of the card is Early Espresso. For this last card, the bodies of the birds and flowers were completed with Light and Dark Balmy Blue, again to coordinate with the cardstock used for the sentiment and the card base. Give the base of the card a bit more texture, I used the Country Flowers embossing folder (now retired) in Blueberry Bushel (retired) on a Balmy Blue card base.
You can find all of the products used to create these cards, with the exception of the patterned paper and the embossing folder below.
