I’ll be honest. Initially, I purchased this bundle for the dies because of the great shapes they offer for framing images and sentiments. But once I really took a look at the creatures in this adorable set, I broke down and bought the bundle and I’m happy I did!
Granted, I love the dies, but the I feel the stamp set itself is super versatile and not just for making cards for children. I decided to CASE a card from the annual catalog and here’s my rendition.
I started my card with a base in Basic Black cardstock. The DSP is retired (sorry). Then I cut two of the frames from the Hippo and Friends Dies and inked the edge of the smaller one in Highland Heather. To give it some add dimension, I used some Stampin’ Dimensionals.
The hippo itself is actually created using three different stamps that form the body and the eyes, nose and smile; Highland Heather for the base and Gorgeous Grape for the body. To be candid, my eyes aren’t the best, so to ensure the lines aligned as they should, I ended up turning to my Stamparatus to ensure the images lined up as needed. I did find it difficult to get the eyes, nose outline and smile to work – actually it was the nostrils. So, I ended up taking a black fine-tip marker and drew them in.
The balloons were stamped in Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie and Mango Melody. I cut the wavy “grass” out of Pear Pizzaz cardstock and finally for the sentiment strip, I used Melon Mambo cardstock, stamped in Versamark Ink and embossed with our white embossing powder. The strip was cut using one of the smallest rectangles in the Stitched Rectangles Dies.
You’ll notice the hippo, sentiment and balloons are all popped off the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The inside of the card is finished with a 5.25 x 4″ piece of Whisper White with two balloons and “hippo birthday” stamped at the bottom.
