Good Morning Magnolia

The thought of coloring stamped images always intimidated me, but once I saw the Good Morning Magnolia cling stamp, from the Stampin’ Up! 2019-2020 annual catalog, I knew I not only had to have the stamp set, but coloring was in my future. Simply put, I have learned to love coloring, especially with our Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. I actually now find it almost therapeutic to bring these gorgeous magnolia blossoms to life, and when it comes to coloring them, your imagination is your only limit.

Good Morning Magnolia

The card is a standard A2 size (5.5″ x 4.25) with two complimentary green layers of cardstock (not SU), topped with a layer of striped Petal Pink and Whisper White paper from the Magnolia Lane Designer Series Paper suite. I stamped the magnolia using Momento Tuxedo Black ink and then cut the image using Magnolia Memories Dies. Then the coloring fun began! For the leaves, I used both Light and Dark Mossy Meadow Stampin’ Blends paired with Light and Dark Old Olive. The stem of the flower features Dark Soft Suede. From there, I started coloring the flower using a combination of Dark and Light Petal Pink, Light Calypso Coral and Light Flirty Flamingo. The center of the magnolia was finished with a touch of Light Daffodil Delight.

After the coloring was complete, I stamped the sentiment in Tuxedo Black from the Butterfly Gala stamp set. I then mounted the magnolia on the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals so it would pop off the card just a little for added dimension.

If you are interested in creating projects like these, here are the Stampin’ Up! products you may want to consider. If you’re new or newer to stamping, you don’t need everything below to get started. The Magnolia image and the leaves can be stamped in Tuxedo Black Momento Ink and then colored in with colored pencils or even our water color pencils below (not water needed). Although I used the Magnolia Memories Dies to cut my images, you can certainly “fussy cut” these out with a very sharp pair of snips (in the list). Stampin’ Up! offers two different kinds of Whisper White cardstock. The thick cardstock is wonderful for sturdy card bases. You can get two A2 (5.5″ x 4.25″) bases from each sheet. The regular Whisper White cardstock is best used for stamping images for the fronts of cards.
